Our Proud New Mexico Heritage...
Dan’s Boots & Saddles, a third generation, family owned business, has seen many changes over the years. Dan Christensen, the store's namesake, started his business on the Navajo Reservation at Rock Point Trading Post in Arizona. In 1938, he purchased the Pinedale Trading Post located east of Gallup, New Mexico. The majority of trading was done on the barter system, trading silver and turquoise jewelry, hand woven rugs and baskets, and other crafts for groceries, clothing, hardware and other necessities. There was also a strong business in pinon nuts, wool, lambs and cattle. Many life-long friendships developed with Navajo and Apache families during these years, and many of these people and their ancestors are customers at Dan’s Boots & Saddles today.
In 1953, Dan’s Boots and Saddles opened its first store in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The store was located downtown on Central Avenue, part of the Historic Route 66. In the early 70's Dan's Boots and Saddles moved to our current location in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, still on a portion of Historic Route 66.
Dan’s Boots & Saddles, has evolved into a unique business offering just about everything for horses, riders and even backyard "chicken ranchers."
